Engineer, with proven track record in RF, tools and technologies such as GSM/2G, and UMTS/3G. Has an understanding or an experience in design and performance of inbuilding and outdoor (i/o) distributed antenna systems (DAS). Possess high level understanding of LTE, Wi-Fi, and core/transport networking concepts such as RNC, MSC, gateways, ATM, IP, Ethernet, routers, etc.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to, following key areas:
Develop, implement and maintain engineering design, optimization and acceptance standards and processes for i/o DAS. This would include, but not limited to, topics such as, develop design and optimization Workflow Processes; Coverage and Capacity design requirements/calculations; Field Testing such as Benchmarking, Site walk/survey, CW testing; Antenna/DAS vendor selection criteria; Preliminary, Intermediate and Final Design Conditional and Final Acceptance;
Develop pre- and post- implementation/optimization and performance analysis, triage and acceptance, for both loaded and unloaded condition.
Develop venue specific (such as stadium, hotels, hospitals, malls, transit, office buildings, etc.) design, optimization and acceptance guidelines
Review and integrate and unify existing DAS guidelines from RAN
Develop QA and best practice/feedback process to ensure standards are kept current; Setup standards for managing, maintaining and publishing current documentation
Interface with DAS and RAN vendors/OEMs, including helping to develop and test new features and capabilities
Collaborate with other National RAN teams such as RF, V&E, LTE, etc.
Develop a training course material focusing around DAS engineering, tools and technologies.
Provide Tier-III support/recommendation to regional and market teams for both DAS solution and Technology vendors, such as ALU, Ericsson, NSN, ADC/LGC, Andrew, Mobile Access, Powerwave, etc.
Assisting internal teams with venue prioritization for funding.
Position Qualifications
Qualified candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering relevant work experience. Experienced with DAS architecture remote nodes, fiber optic components, BTS hotel front end, GSM BTS and UMTS Node B components (power amplifiers, combiners, duplexers), single band and dual band RF installation architecture (feeders, antennas, TMAs and diplexers). Familiar with network architecture for GSM, UMTS, LTE; and experienced in designing such networks. Hands on experience with RF propagation tools (Atoll, Wizard, Asset, Planet and ibwave) and engineering tools such as MapInfo, Actix, TEMS, Agilent, etc. Experienced radio propagation for the cellular and PCS spectrum bands, propagation model tuning aspects, antenna theory, link budgets (losses, gains, fade margins for indoor, in-car, outdoor applications)
Posses strong written and verbal communication skills. Have an excellent interpersonal and leadership skills. A highly motivated, individual contributor with strong organizational and technical engineering skills. A SME that can mentor and provide training/coaching.
The position requires an individual to be a self starter, an independent thinker with an attitude of curiosity. Acts independently under very general direction on complex design/performance challenges, equipment/RF troubleshooting and problem resolution, project management and vendor interface. Effectively present ideas, proposals and guidelines to executives, peers, and regional/market management. The position will also require the candidate to work/support special projects, trials or field studies and documentation/presentation. Analyzes performance measurement & statistics to improve network efficiencies & identify potential problems. Provides trend analysis. Analyzes performance standards. Develops detailed recommendations for changes & process improvements. Promotes best practices and standardization at all levels of organization.
