As an embedded OS
developer, you will work on cutting edge technologies in RIM's BlackBerry
handheld software, running on a range of new and exciting mobile devices
. You
will be responsible for advanced development to evolve the design, architecture
and implementation of the BlackBerry device platform, making it more flexible
and more capable. We are looking for creative, fearless, innovative and
motivated individuals, at home with C/C++ level work at the embedded operating
system level. As part of this job, you will:
Work on a range of
embedded operating system features, including kernel, drivers, graphics, video,
audio, camera, WiFi, performance and power optimizations, tools
Prototype OS proofs of
concept and bring them up on new hardware / software combinations
Experiment with open
source technologies where necessary
Interface with
software and hardware teams to collaborate, develop, integrate advanced OS
technology
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND
QUALIFICATIONS
Expert C/C++
programming, debugging and performance analysis skills on embedded systems
Intimate familiarity
with ARM based platforms
Technical expertise on
embedded and real-time operating systems (RTOS), such as Linux, Windows Mobile
or Symbian, with extensive knowledge of kernel structure, system and operation,
including several of:
Kernel, BSP/LSP, bootloader, or board
bring-up
Device drivers (e.g. NAND, SDIO, LCD,
USB, UART, etc)
Multimedia frameworks
Filesystems
Power management
Radio
Experience with
development tools such as Git, Perforce, GDB/KGDB
Excellent
communication skills
Graduate degree in
Electrical Engineering/Computer Science/Computer Engineering preferred, with at
least an undergraduate in EE or CS
ADDITIONAL ASSETS
Intimate understanding
of standard networking protocols: IP, UDP, TCP, HTTP
Intimate understanding
of current web standards: HTML, XML, CSS, ECMAScript
Low-level graphics
APIs such as OpenVG, OpenGL ES
Multimedia frameworks
such as OpenMAX
Open source
application frameworks such as Qt, Gnome
