Manufacturing Engineer


Job Summary:

Assures manufacturability in the design of new product development

Responsible for Production buy off of new product processes

Lead process to establish, maintain, and continuous improvements by utilizing Lean Six Sigma Tools, such as Standard Work, 5S, SMED, TPM, Lean Product Development process.  Validate continuous improvements from Lean Product Development process

Create and Maintain BOMs and routers into the MRP system

Driven to continuous improvement by investigating and identifying new technologies including automation, and machine upgrades, to drive continual improvements in cost, quality, safety and customer satisfaction.

Team with Quality to train production personnel on new equipment and processes

Develop manufacturing work instructions, procedures, production flow, and value stream maps

Ability to perform root cause analysis using Lean Manufacturing and/or statistical methodologies

Evaluates and approves design changes, specification and drawing releases, includes both part/assemblies and tooling

Independently leads/coordinates the implementation of projects


Strong organizational and communication skills required.
Ability to multi-task and function in a factory environment
Ability to read/create technical drawings and specifications
Motivated, self-starter with the ability to learn quickly
Ability to network with associates in other departments to find needed information
Willingness to consider change and to adapt
Quick reaction to business opportunities

EDUCATION/PRIOR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Engineering Degree BSME and/or BSIE or equivalent preferred. Additional technical training certificates a plus.  A minimum of three years of experience with hands on production/manufacturing engineering is required. Knowledge of bills of material, routings, manufacturing procedures, tooling/fixture design, etc. is required. Must possess good mechanical abilities with excellent design practices.  Should be familiar with CNC machinery, welding, sheet metal operations, and small machine/equipment design. Must be PC literate and have good CAD experience.  Strongly prefer lean manufacturing knowledge and demonstrated experience with lean tools.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the methodology of producing product components. Identifying and development of all production, assembly & test processes and procedures. Mfg. Engineer’s responsibilities include insurance that products are produced in most economical proficient manner. Ultimate quality characteristics and considerations must be adhered to.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES OR AREAS UNDER INCUMBENTS CONTROL
Manufacturing Engineers are assigned to specific product lines. Each must ensure all relative routings, fixtures, tooling, procedures, processes, etc. are appropriately in place for manufacturing. When tooling/fixtures are designed, MEs decipher whether tooling is to be built in-house or sub-contracted out.  Either way MEs maintain the responsibility of ensuring cost effective on time procurement. When doing any type of design development MEs must ensure all safety provisions are considered, applied and designed into process. Once new or changed process is initiated, MEs assume the responsibilities for safe operating implementation. This includes written and or oral operating procedures. Although mandatory overtime is not exercised, each ME must use own judgment towards working required overtime hours in order to complete assigned project on time per schedule.  
GENERAL INFORMATION
This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed.  This position is required to follow any other instructions and to perform any other duties requested by the supervisor.  ME’s must possess excellent communicational skills. Their day-to-day job duties reflect some type of production schedule, product process costs, identifying appropriate method of manufacturing, etc. All of which usually requires some type of communications with other supporting departments. MEs must continually increase their familiarity with all aspects of production operations. They must acknowledge that most development ideas come from manufacturing floor, either by understanding current process or listening to production operators.
