Description
The Engineering Department within the Power Supply Business Unit is seeking to hire a dedicated and motivated individual to join the Electrical Engineering group.  The individual will be responsible for providing electrical engineering support to Power Authority generating plant and transmission substations throughout the State.

In support of electric utility operations, maintenance and design activities, the candidate will develop equipment specifications and design packages for all high voltage transformer and switchyard apparatuses in accordance with applicable industry standards. As a minimum, this requires expertise regarding equipment such as power transformers, power circuit breakers, current transformers, potential transformers, surge arrestors, switching and grounding equipment, as well as underground and overhead cable systems.

The candidate will be required to evaluate technical proposals and electrical equipment functional designs, perform failure evaluations, and to provide both planned and emergent on-site support to facilities throughout New York State.   Factory visits to support design reviews and testing, as well as the ability to coordinate with vendors during the manufacturing process is required. Oversight of outside consultants will also be expected.
Requirements

The candidate will demonstrate expertise in the analysis, design and integration of substation facilities.  A strong knowledge of high voltage power system concepts is required. Basic understanding of Excel and other Microsoft Office applications is necessary. Working knowledge of industry codes and standards such as ANSI, IEC, IEEE, NEC and NFPA is required.

Experience Required:

The candidate must possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university, and a strong understanding of power system theory.  Masters Degree is preferable and in order to be considered for a Senior Level Engineer.
