IT Database Specialist

The role of the IT Database Specialist is to manage, design, install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. The role is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software. Other key responsibilities include:
working with application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures;
create models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones;
install and configure relevant network components to ensure database access as well as database consistency and integrity;
respond to and resolve database access and performance issues;
assessing and develop long-term strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers; and
participate in the design and implementation of short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure capacity meets existing and future requirements.
Experience and qualifications will include:
tertiary qualifications in IT or equivalent;
five years DBA experience in MS SQL or similar;
strong experience in tuning MS SQL as well as managing Analysis and Reporting Services;
current knowledge of Windows servers and operating systems in a large corporate environment, and;
experience in managing small to medium sized projects.
Experience in Banking or Financial systems support, would be highly regarded.
