Major responsibilities include:
Design all Chrysler responsible axle hypoid and differential bevel gear designs for future applications
Develop and improve all existing axle hypoid and differential bevel gear designs
Evaluate and analyze purchased axle hypoid and differential bevel gear designs as they apply to Chrysler vehicle applications
Institute best practices and continuous improvement efforts in the following areas of hypoid and differential bevel gear designs: Performance (durability, NVH, efficiency, weight, etc.), Commercial Attributes (cost and investment), Quality (process improvements) and Manufacturing (identifying critical manufacturing process characteristics)

Benchmarking and performing competitive gear analysis ensuring Chrysler designs are competitive within the axle industry
Lead the analytical gear process using CAGE/KIMOS/ZAFE (i.e. latest software developments) to better predict and define hypoid contact patterns, stresses, NVH metrics, etc.
Set up and define all cutting and lapping summaries, CMM and P machine input, blade grinding summaries, assembly and measurement
Responsible for content and consistent gear drawing documentation (i.e. specifications, release levels and process related requirements/implications)

Additional responsibilities include:
Release all Chrysler Axle Engineering gear designs into FASTCAR and EBOM structures.
Identify critical design characteristics and optimize specifications, if necessary, via DOE and objective testing
Document best practices
Calculate new gear designs (i.e. iterate through many designs that seeking optimal design for application)
Interface with all company departments (Vehicle Platform teams, Powertrain Platform teams, AME, manufacturing, Scientific Labs, etc.) to develop best designs and practices
Evaluate gear contact patterns and Motion Transmission Error data to optimize for application.
Support the identification of manufacturing and assembly best practices to improve efficiency, durability, and NVH
Contribute to the axle design process
Coordinate activities with suppliers, engineers, and manufacturing facilities with respect to gear forging, gear blanking and processing of gear blanks (heat treating, shot peening and final grinding)
Support the P&S team and supplier management process during the supplier selection process
Insure that all parts satisfy and adhere to the CDS process and time line
Provide presentations to all levels of Engineering Management
Calculate gear strength, NVH and efficiency to find optimal balance for application.
Development of Single Flank Test (SFT) requirements and support the correlation of SFT and axle NVH test equipment following through to SPL measurements in vehicle
Support the gear material selection process
Participate and support machine run offs of equipment to be used to manufacture the gearsets (i.e. ZF equipment at Marysville Assembly Plant (MAP) plus any future equipment changes)
Generate sign off all finished gear and in process 2D drawings and 3D models.
Support the development of Control Plans at DAP and MAP
Constant support and interface with Chrysler Axle Engineering, Chrysler AME, Chrysler Manufacturing and Quality, and ZF Engineering and Manufacturing
Support the exploration of new axle NVH technology and implementation.
